International Education Week: Sensitivity Training
Learning about different types of people is key to developing empathy and good communication skills. In this training event, we were able to learn more about Down syndrome, anxiety, and autism through three interactive stations.
“The RAM sensitivity training had shed light and revealed what people diagnosed with autism truly go through. The second and third stations showed control and experiment groups, which is important in psychology education to understand others and their behavior.”

Diaper Packing
In collaboration with the Miami Diaper Bank, we were able to help package and process about 75,000 diapers for distribution to those who need it.
“Working at the diaper bank was a really cool and fun experience. We got to do a lot of work in the warehouse and learn more about how diapers get to families in need.”

Colorful Conversations
We had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Sarah Leclere, a general dentist from Indianapolis, IN, where she shared the journey to get to where she is, her insights into challenges she faces, and advice for future healthcare professionals.
We were also able to practice indirect vision on fun, Halloween-themed coloring sheets.
“The coloring event was a super fun and interactive experience! Although at first glance it seemed easy, it was a lot harder than I first thought, but definitely was a great way to see what dentists do everyday.”

RAM Madison, FL Clinic
We were happy to have 11 of our members travel 7 hours away to volunteer at the Remote Area Medical free clinic where they helped register 212 patients and provide $161,604 in dental, vision, and medical services. Our volunteers were able to contribute in several areas including patient registration, translating, vision checkout, glasses-making, medical scribing, dental x-rays, and running.
“My time volunteering at the RAM clinic in Madison showed me how powerful community-driven care can be. Being able to help patients who traveled hours for treatment was humbling and reinforced why I want to keep serving in healthcare settings.”

From Dreams to Doctor
A NSU undergraduate alumni and current DO student, Taniyah Mariah, was able to come in and share her thoughts and memories from her time in medical school.
“I was able to learn more about the medical school process and gain insights into NSU’s DO program. I also learned about Taniya’s journey to getting into medical school and received advice on what I should do to prepare for my own path to medical school.”

Sing and Swing
We spent the afternoon at the Ronald McDonald House of South Florida singing karaoke, dancing, and just spending time with the families staying there. In just an hour, we were able to really connect with four of the kids and their families in a meaningful and joy-filled way.

Wrap It Up For RAM
Partnering with Chipotle Mexican Grill, we were able to successfully host a fundraising night where we raised money to help us host our own free clinic for those in underserved communities.
“Getting to eat somewhere I already love and support an amazing cause at the same time isn’t something I get to do often. It genuinely felt like I made a difference, both for my stomach and for the community.”
– Maanya
Lemonade and Learning
